Art of Health Updates…

Press Release: Rainbow Access Initiative, Inc.  Announces

The Art of Health & 2012 Access Award Recipients

November 18, 2011:  Health and wellness in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, & Queer (LGBTQ) community requires professionalism, commitment, collaboration and creativity.  To that end, RAI is delighted to announce the Art of Health event and the 2012 Access Award Recipients

This signature RAI event blends our LGBTQ health & wellness expo with our new live Access Award Variety Show.  On Saturday, March 3, 2012 we will come together at the Schenectady Light Opera Company located at 427 Franklin Street in Schenectady, NY to explore health and wellness and to honor the 2012 Access Award Recipients.  This year’s event will help the Capital District kickoff LGBT Health Month (March) in New York State in style, as we “Take Pride in Our Health” and celebrate community.

This year’s theme, the Art of Health was selected to recognize the important role the Arts play in inspiring health and wellness in the LGBTQ community in the Capital District.  This year’s Access Award recipients have utilized the Arts to inform, inspire and empower us all.

The 2012 Access Award recipients are as follows: Albany High School Theatre Ensemble for the Laramie Project (Ward Dales – Theatre Arts Instructor & Fiona Thompson – Albany Schools’ Volunteer Coordinator), Proctors for QFEST (Joey Hunziker – Youth and Community Programs Manager), and Carmie Hope (Steven Homes) – Frieda Munchon (David Bagnardi) – Whiskey Sour (Kevin Bruce) for their dedication to LGBT health through performance and volunteerism.

With special recognition we are pleased to announce The Bobbi Williams Access Award goes to the superlative program, Homo Radio (WRPI/91.5 FM). This pioneering show will be celebrating 20 years on the air in February, 2012.  The Homo Radio cast and crew includes Co-Producers Sean McLaughlin and Dr. Ray H. Werking Jr., Ryan Smith – Community Calendar Editor, Tim Ruppert – Program Assistant, Joe Galu – News Writer, and Co-Hosts Ulysses de Armes, Dave Leybig, and Kathy Breda.

Rainbow Access Initiative is extremely grateful to the above noted Access Award recipients for their years of service and dedication.  Please save the date (March 3, 2012) and join RAI and the community as we come together to celebrate the 2012 Access Award Recipients.
