National Coalition for LGBT Health post on HHS announcement.

Action Alert from the National Coalition for LGBT Health

HHS Announcement – HealthCare.gov helps same-sex couples find coverage

Today, HHS announced that Americans are now able to use HealthCare.gov to search specifically for insurance plans that include coverage for same-sex domestic partners. The Health Plan Finder tool on HealthCare.gov allows consumers to compare the cost sharing and benefit choices of health plans and choose the best option to meet their needs.  Domestic partners, including same-sex couples, can now filter plans that offer coverage for all members of their family.

“Last year, as part of our commitment to work with the LGBT community and be more responsive to the needs of these populations, we promised to improve the Health Plan Finder tool to give LGBT individuals the ability to search for health plans that provide same-sex partner benefits.” said HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. “Today we have delivered on that promise.”

Later this week, HHS will hold a conference call to walk participants through how to use HealthCare.gov and, more specifically, where to find the information about same-sex partner coverage.  The invitation for the conference call is included below as well and we encourage you to share the invitation broadly with your networks.
